CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation

Hendrick Medical Center has received CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ accreditation, recognizing the organization’s extraordinary commitment to the health of its employees and their families. To earn Gold Standard accreditation, an employer must establish programs to reduce cancer risk by taking concrete actions in five key areas: establishing policies and programs to reduce cancer risk by prohibiting tobacco use and supporting tobacco cessation efforts; promoting physical activity, healthy nutrition and weight management; providing health insurance options that include detecting cancer at its earliest stages, access to quality care and participation in cancer clinical trials; promoting employee awareness of these initiatives; and supporting the needs of cancer survivors in the workplace.

Hendrick Medical Center received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes Hendrick’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Hendrick Medical Center earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing their health, get a follow-up visit scheduled, as well as other care transition interventions.

Additionally, Hendrick Medical Center received the association’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll award. To qualify for this recognition, Hendrick met quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.

Quality Respiratory Care Recognition

Hendrick Medical Center recently earned the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) from the American Association for Respiratory Care for the 10th year in a row. Only 40 hospitals in Texas received this year’s award.

The QRCR program was developed by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) in 2003 to help consumers identify facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care. The need for such a program grew from concerns of health care leaders and the public regarding the safety and quality of services for patients. Hospitals that have earned the QRCR follow a strict protocol of guidelines and procedures which ensure quality care is given.

The Quality Respiratory Care Recognition is significant because it helps patients make an informed decision when choosing a hospital,” said Sherri Bowden, director of pulmonary services at Hendrick Medical Center. “Patients who choose Hendrick can be assured of receiving the highest standards of respiratory care.”
